QUIZ: Weird Forever

DATELINE: July 5th 1937

THE EVENT: Spam, the luncheon meat, is introduced into the market by the Hormel Foods Corporation.

THE INEVITABLE WEIRD AL PARODY: "Spam" ("Stand" by REM)

Yes, once upon a time in an era we called the 1980s and also the 1990s and the 00s and some of the 10s too, "Weird Al" Yankovic was well known for his note-perfect musical pastiches of then-current chart hits. Robert Palmer's "Addicted To Love"? Weird Al's "Addicted to Spuds", "I Love Rock And Roll"? How about "I Love Rocky Road"! Indeed, Al became so synonymous with grub-based songs that when Kurt Cobain okayed the parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" it was under the condition it couldn't be about food.

Okay, cards on the table, I genuinely love "Weird Al" Yankovic although I'm much more into his original material than the overplayed obvious parodies. So here's a quiz dedicated to the...um, song parodies. What original songs are these Al's spoof versions taken from?

1. "Another One Rides the Bus"
2. "Eat It"
3. "Word Crimes"

4. "Living with a Hernia"
5. "Gump"
6. "Perform This Way"
7. "Tacky"

8. "My Bologna"
9.  "King of Suede"
10. "Pretty Fly for a Rabbi"
11. "Lasagna"
12. "Trapped in the Drive-Thru"
